Bushmans Kloof was formerly the hunting ground of the San. Those who are interested in the lives of the bushmen can still today find numerous well-kept rock paintings on the bizarre rock formations. On guided sightseeing tours, you'll learn about the traditional lifestyle of these former hunter-gatherers who roamed the south-western region of South Africa from about 8000 BC.
Four of the luxurious suites are located in the central main building of the complex, which has a restaurant and bar, as well as two wonderful lounges with fireplaces. A library and a business centre are also available.

The adjoining inner courtyard forms just one of the beautiful oases of relaxation in the resort. Framed by shady pergolas, a glistening turquoise pool invites you to jump in for a swim. The adjacent Spa and Fitness Center is also a place to experience soothing relaxation.

The spacious complex with its wide lawns, lovely gardens and various pools and lakes is similar to a fertile valley. The owners, Josie and Fred Stow, have been successfully working on restoring the surrounding countryside and flora and fauna to its natural state since 1992.

Bushmans Kloof offers the best conditions for observing wildlife. The rare Cape mountain zebra, the bontebok, the black gnu and many other mammals have been resettled in their natural habitat thanks to the reserve's nature conservation programme.

The very finest à la carte dishes are served in the Makana Restaurant which has an open design. Experienced sommeliers proffer you exquisite wines to drink with your meals.

The typically South African mix of African and European influences is reflected in the interior decoration of all the rooms and lounges in the lodge. Classic furniture has been complemented in a stylistically confident way with African fabrics and decorations and it harmonises perfectly with the clear architecture of the rooms.
Together with the choice natural materials used in the furnishings, the rustic stone walls and the high roof truss create an unusual setting. There are comfortable sofas and armchairs in the upper area where you can sit down and enjoy an aperitif.

The simplicity of the original country house character has also been retained in the restaurant of the main house.

Contemporary cuisine, an excellent wine list and the refreshing hospitality of the Cape region make a stay in Bushmans Kloof a celebration. Floris Smith, the head chef, conjures up the culinary delights using fresh ingredients from the lodge's own garden.

Romantic fabrics and warm colours give the Riverside Honeymoon Suite its cosy flair. In the form of a separate chalet with a lounge and fireplace and a large outside terrace, the suite provides really special accommodation not only for newly-weds.

Classic English rose patterns, which are combined with colour-coordinated checked fabrics in the bedroom, are repeated in the bathroom furnishings.

The rooms have been designed very individually and with a lot of feeling for special materials and style combinations. Every detail has been carefully chosen and arranged.

With its glistening, dark high-grade woods and matching colonial-style decorations, the Paterson Suite is captivating.
